..the History A stone tower (pirgos) has stood at Glinado’s highest point for many years. It leans on a great halaros, a word known in Naxian dialect to mean deeply rooted, granite bedrock. Born from the rock the tower was also a watchtower & represents a piece of the villages history. According to BBC documentation the tower was founded in the 17th century in a place not easily accesible & hidden from the sea because of the fear of pirates… the Present Today the pirgos in Glinado begins a new Cycle of life. Restoration has been carried out with regard for the tower’s history, the stone, wood & other architectural elements characteristic of cycladic buildings have been maintained.
Today the premises include a traditional Villa, HALAROS, where you can enjoy a relaxation stay with 360 degrees panoramic view along with a variety local Naxian experiences. You can always choose a local wine of your taste from the cellar which has a wide selection of labels. Accompany it with a serving of food that will come from the traditional wood oven. An additional attraction for the visitor is the folk collection from Naxos & Greece hosted in the renovated tower. … And all this & a panoramic view of Chora, the western coast of Naxos as well as the big blue sea fading distantly on the horizon, in a space expressing the grandeur & simplicity of Cycladic aesthetics.
